Nearly every hearing aid we see for repair failed for one of three reasons: wax, moisture or a worn dome. All three are preventable in about two minutes a day.
Every evening
Wipe the shell and dome with a dry cloth — never water or alcohol wipes. Check the dome opening for wax and clear it with the brush that came in the box. Put the aids in the charger or, for battery models, open the battery door overnight so moisture escapes.
Every week or two
Change the wax filter as soon as sound gets quiet or dull; that single part causes most 'my aid stopped working' calls. Replace domes monthly, or sooner if they stiffen or tear.
Moisture and heat
Sweat, humidity and steam are harder on electronics than dust. Take the aids out before showering and before a sauna, and use a drying container if you live somewhere humid or exercise heavily. Never leave them on a car dashboard.
Charger care
Keep the charging contacts clean and dry — a dry cotton swab is enough. If an aid will not charge, clean the contacts before assuming a fault.
